Mirko gave me a book today by a Japanese author named Banana Yoshimoto. It’s her first novel at 201 pages. I read the first 10 and they weren’t too bad, so shes already got me through .049% of the book right there. Of course, Mirko loves everything Bukowski so I’m giving Banana one chapter before she starts using metaphors. Metaphors are deal breakers for me, and with a name like that I’m thinking her entire existence has been a metaphor for something. I’m just saying…
I’m still trying to read Jane Eyre but I get into it and then I don’t pick it up again for weeks. I took it to Cordoba with me, and it served as additional backpack bulk, but not much else. I’m just not a fan of the Brontë sisters. I don’t like anyone who outsmarts me in general, so they shouldn’t take it too personally.
Mirko and I – a.k.a. Team Super Trip are making a huge play list for our drive to San Francisco. Today I picked out Simon and Garfunkel and The Mamas and the Papas (California Dreamin’? Hello theme for the summer!) and Mirko picked out the new Portishead :::gag::: and Iron and Wine. If I have to listen to Beth Gibbons at 109º, in a vintage vee-dub van in the middle of the freaking desert things might get dangerous. Geoff Barrow and Adrian Utley guest DJed on NPR last week to promote Third, Portishead’s new album. I was pleasantly surprised by how silly they were. You wacky Brits! You can hear it for yourself here.
PS. Uhm, Mom, uh, don’t leave any more comments about your boobs. My friends read this. Thanks. Luv you though!
